The head nurse of the Hungarian Red Cross, Countess Edelsheim-Gyulai Ilona, was present at the opening and worked as a nurse in the hospital. The hospital has about 40 doctors, nurses, and assistants.

Since the Castle District contained Hungarian government offices, the Minister of War and Karoly Szendy, the mayor of Budapest, decided that a functioning hospital should also be built in the existing cave structure.
